Caltrans Announces First Female Chief Engineer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Caltrans has announced Karla Sutliff as their new Chief Engineer. Sutliff is the first woman to be appointed to that position. Caltrans said she will be responsible for all engineering aspects within the department. 

Sutliff will also oversee 9,000 employees and work with an annual budget of $1.8 billion. She has been working with Caltrans for over 26 years. For the past 11 years she was serving as the chief on several different divisions within the company including design, traffic operations and project management.

Sutliff has a degree in civil engineering from U.C. Davis. She is also a licensed civil engineer.
