Witnesses Say Shots Fired on Garner, Nearby School Placed on Loc - Central Coast News KION/KCBA

SALINAS, Calif. -- Salinas police are investigating the area of Garner Avenue and Sanborn after witnesses reported hearing shots in the area.

When police arrived they found bullet shell casings. They are still looking for people involved in the shooting.

Police said two schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Salinas police said Martin Luther King Junior Academy and Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary School are near the area where the shots were heard.

We spoke with school officials who say students are out on winter break and only staff members are on campus.
