CALIF- As the nation mourns for the victims in Connecticut, one Central Coast teacher says she now fears she may have to own a gun in order to protect not only herself, but her students.
Dolly Williams coaches gymnastics and teaches third grade and making sure her students are safe is her number one priority.
"You would do anything for them, you become so attached," said Dolly Williams, a local teacher.
When Williams hears about tragedies like the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut., and the thought of one man killing so many innocent children, she fears she may have to one day own a gun.
"I shouldn't have to protect them with a gun. I shouldn't have to protect them from things like that," she said.
For Toni Wellen, who is against gun control, she says owning a gun triggers violence.
"The legal gun owner as we learned on Friday is one crisis one moment of anger away from tragedy," said Toni Wellen, Chair of Santa Barbara Coalition Against Gun Violence.
Wellen says our country needs stricter gun laws.
"States that have stronger gun laws have fewer gun deaths," said Wellen.
Gun owner, Terry Rosa, says guns aren't the problem.
"People kill people, weapons do not..you average it out the amount of people that are suffering because of this gun violence compared to other types of violence is minimal," said Terry Rosa, a local gun owner.
While gun control may be divisive, teacher, Dolly Williams says there's one thing we can agree on.
"Hug your kids everyday, you never know," said Williams.
