Suspect Arrested For Arson After Car Fire

Posted: Updated:

HOLLISTER, Calif.- The Hollister Police Department and the Hollister Fire Department arrested Eugene Frankovic, 33, for arson Wednesday following an investigation into two car fires.

The Hollister Fire Department responded to a report of two cars on fire on the 600 block of A Street Wednesday. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in time to keep the fire from spreading to the home located next to the cars. The Fire Department discovered evidence of the fire being deliberately set.

The Hollister Fire Marshall determined the fire started in the back of a pick-up truck and spread to another vehicle that was parked directly behind it.

The Hollister Police Department joined the investigation and developed investigative leads. Officers were able to connect Frankovic, a previous resident, to the fire. He was found and arrested several hours after the incident. Frankovic was transported to the San Benito County Jail and booked for the crime of arson. He currently has a bail of $100,000.

The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the person who notified 911 of the fire. The department said the fire could have been much worse had it not been for the watchful citizen.
