Three People Dead, Including Suspect, in Portland Mall Shooting

Posted: Updated:

PORTLAND, Oregon.,-- A suspect opened fire in a mall near Portland Tuesday afternoon, killing two people and injuring at least one other person before deputies said the gunman was killed.

Reports say the gunman stormed the Clackamas Town Center near the Portland suburb of Happy Valley around 3 p.m.

A lockdown of the mall was underway for hours following the shooting, as the swat team went store-by-store, to evacuate people inside.

Witnesses told the Fox affiliate, they saw a man in "all black" wearing a white hockey mask carrying an assault rifle. The gunman was seen jogging through Macy's. Other witnesses say the man pulled out the gun and open fire in the food court area.

At a news conference Tuesday evening, a sheriff spokesperson said one weapon had been recovered, but deputies were searching the mall to make sure there were no other weapons involved.

Emergency dispatchers got reports of a man with a rifle inside, who had fired 20 shots. A dispatch worker confirmed to KOIN, a CBS affiliate, that multiple people were shot. Witnesses also told KOIN the area town center part of the mall was evacuated and placed on lock down.

Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene along with SWAT team members.

No word on a possible motive.
