SALINAS, Calif. -- Salinas Police say there's a new scam going around where someone is posing as a Fed Ex employee asking people for undeliverable package fees that don't really exist.

Police said the caller told the victim that a package was not delivered at their home because no one was there, and told the victim there's a "holding fee" for the package and they needed to pay for it before the fee goes up. Officers also said the caller threatened the victim by saying Fed Ex would notify police and the victim would be held for 48 hours.

The Fed Ex poser provided the victim with a bank account number and information on where the fee should be paid. Salinas police said the phone number and business is associated with a scam called Soluciones Legales or Legal Solutions out of New York.

Officers said the business is fake and as soon as money is deposited into the account it is immediately withdrawn. Police say most people who are targeted are Spanish speaking victims.

Fed Ex confirmed with police that the caller was a fraud, and this is not how they handle their procedures. Fed Ex also told police the name of the fraud caller did not match anyone in their system.
