HOLLISTER, Calif. - Hollister Police arrested three men responsible for another cockfighting ring in San Benito county. Friday morning, Hollister Police Animal Care and Services, with the assistance of the San Benito County Sheriff's Department, the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Hollister Police Department served a search warrant at a home on Fairvew Road.
Police found about 400 chickens on the property. Of the 400, more than 120 roosters were caged and being prepared for cockfighting. Police found paraphernalia connected to illegal cockfighting, as well.
Police arrested 30-year-old Roberto Hernandez Ramirez, 49-year- old Raul Botello Ramirez and 19-year-old Jesus Manuel Hernandez, all from Hollister. The three men were booked in the San Benito County Jail for misdemeanor charges of possessing game cocks for fighting, owning/training an animal for fighting and cruelty to animals.
The Humane Society of the United States has a reward of up to $5,000 for information on animal fighting that leads to a conviction. To remain anonymous, call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may result in an award of up to $1,000.
