The US economy added 146,000 new jobs in November and the unemployment rate slid to 7.7 percent, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics report released Friday.

The new numbers beat economists expectations, who had forecast the economy would have only added 87,000 jobs last month. Economists said the numbers for November would indicate a weakened economy, after Super Storm Sandy. But, the Labor Department noted that while Sandy caused severe damage in the Northeast, the "survey response rates in the affected states were within normal ranges. Our analysis suggests that Hurricane Sandy did not substantively impact the national employment and unemployment estimates for November." Still, November's jobs numbers are lower than than the 171,000 jobs added in October.
