UPDATE: Pursuit Ends in Rollover Crash on Corral de Tierra, Criminal Charges Expected

SALINAS, Calif. -- Two men driving accused of driving reckless lead deputies on a high speed pursuit, then crashed into a guardrail on Corral de Tierra late Tuesday night, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. 

Just before 11:00 p.m., deputies saw the 1992 red Honda Civic in the area of San Benancio and Corral de Tierra revving it's engine and squealing it's tires.  The driver, identified as 25-year-old Kyle Plymale, failed to stop for deputies and the pursuit began.  It reached speeds of 85 miles per hour.  

Deputies say Plymale lost control while approaching Castlerock Road, hit the guardrail, and rolled the vehicle.  Both Plymale and his passenger had to be extricated from the car and were taken to local hospitals with major injuries.  The Monterey County Sheriff's Office reports both men are in stable condition Wednesday night. 

Due to Plymale's injuries, he has not been arrested. However, charges are being requested through the District Attorney's Office. 

Deputies say alcohol was "likely" a factor in the accident, but California Highway Patrol is on the case to determine if alcohol in fact played a role.
