Salinas Police Report Two Robberies In Same Area

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. - Salinas Police have confirmed they are responding to two separate armed robberies in Salinas.

The calls came in a little before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

We just got off the phone with Salinas Police and here is a timeline of events:

At 6:35 p.m., Salinas Police got several calls that the La Vina Market on the 2100 block of North Main was being robbed.  Witnesses reported that two men dressed al lin black walked into the store, waving handguns and demanded money from both the customers and the cashiers.  Everyone complied, and the suspects ran out of the Market with an undisclosed amount of money.

One of the suspect was seen running to the Shop & Save also on North Main, where he was apparently trying to hide.  At first, police thought that store was being robbed but the suspect was just trying to escape.  They surrounded the Shop & Save and took him into custody.

At that time, officers noticed 2-3 men running across the street near the firehouse at North Main and Bolivar.  They caught up with 2 of them and took them into custody for questioning.

It is believed they could be  accomplices in the robbery, and that is what police want to find out.

Then at 6:36 Tuesday night, SPD got a call that the Radio Shack in the 600 block of East Boronda, less than a mile away,

Monterey Sheriffs Department took the call since Salinas Police had all their manpower working on North Main St.

In the Radio Shack robbery, a large man of unknown race entered the store waving a large knife and demanding money.  The cashier complied and the suspect ran out with an undisclosed amount of money.  He is still at large.

SPD also wishes to thank CHP for its help in blocking off North Main Street while the investigation was underway.
