MONTEREY, Calif- At Tuesday night's Monterey City Council meeting, a Monterey City Firefighter will be honored with the Medal of Valor after his heroic efforts battling a fire, earlier this year.

Firefighter Neal Hurd is being honored for his quick, courageous efforts when a captain and himself were working a structure fire at the Golden Oaks Condominiums on Mar Vista Drive, back on July 18th.

Both men were working on the roof of the condominium when his Captain's leg sank through the collapsing roof.

Hurd saw this happen, turned and pulled his Captain up and out of the hole, saving him from a far drop.

The Medal of Valor is the highest award presented by the fire department and is awarded only under the most extraordinary circumstances.
