SALINAS, Calif.-- Salinas Police say they responded early this morning to reports of shots being fired in the area of Acosta Plaza.
An area check was made around two Saturday morning and no sign of a shooting was found.
A short time later, a 19 year old shooting victim arrived at the Natividad Medical Center. The victim told officers he had been walking in the Acosta Plaza area when a white vehicle drove up behind him and one of the occupants shot at him. He was struck in the neck and could not provide any further information.
The victim was taken by a relative to the hospital. Although his injuries did not appear life-threatening, he was flown to a Bay Area trauma center for treatment. This crime is being investigated as gang-related.
