Caltrans Starts Ramp and Sidewalk Construction on the 101

Salinas, Calif.-Caltrans has begun a safety project to upgrade ramps and sidewalks on Highway 101 through Monterey and San Benito Counties. These projects will require lane and closures.

Here are the locations in the next week:

  •  Shoulder and ramp closures on southbound Hwy. 101 in Chualar, Monday, Dec. 3, and Thursday Dec. 6 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and on Friday, Dec. 7 from 8:30 am to 1 pm.  Motorists will also encounter one-way reversing traffic control on Main Street and Grant Street.
  •  Shoulder and lane closures in both directions of Hwy. 101 in Salinas on Tuesday, Dec. 4 and Wednesday, Dec. 5 during the overnight hours from 7 pm to 5 am.  Monday through Friday.  Motorists will encounter one-way reversing traffic control on John Street.

This safety project will include improvements on Highways 25, 68, 156 and 183.  Lane/ramp closures in these areas will be announced before road work begins. 

The contractor for this $570,000 project is Brough Construction of Arroyo Grande, CA.

This project is expected to be completed next spring.  

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over or slow down when driving through highway work zones.
