Central Coast Cheer Team Qualified for Nationals, but Funding Gets in the Way of Letting Them Go

MONTEREY, Calif. -- A local cheer team needs to raise $7,000 by this weekend in order to go to their first national competition the league has ever been invited to. 

The girls competing are between 9 to 11 years old and are from Seaside, Monterey, Marina, Salinas and other Central Coast Cities. They got second place in the Pacific Northwest Regional Pop Warner cheer competition in Santa Clara, which qualifies them for the National competition in Florida. 

Pop Warner Cheer told Central Coast News they want to keep the team members involved in athletics. The girls hope to travel across the country this weekend if they raise enough money to go. The national competition starts on Monday.

    SALINAS, Calif- Police are responding to a report of a stabbing that happened on East Alisal Friday afternoon. At this time police have E. Bernal at North Main closed off looking for a possible suspect.
    Police responded to a report of a stabbing that happened on East Alisal Friday afternoon. A witness who saw the stabbing tried to help the victim get to the hospital. He carried the suspect to the car and sped towards the hospital, said police.
