WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- WildRescue staff said the young male falcon suffered two fractures in its shoulder. The animal had to be euthanized because the injuries were so serious. They said the young bird would not have been able to fly again, and would have been in pain for the rest of its life.
The falcon was found in a neighborhood near the Watsonville Airport on Thanksgiving day. WildRescue said neighbors heard shots earlier that day, the falcon was found in the evening with a gunshot wound that went through the bird.
Now the California Department of Fish and Game is still investigating. There's a $1,000 reward from WildRescue on any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for killing the animal.
