Shooting in Salinas; One Person Dead

SALINAS, Calif. -- Salinas Police confirm that one person was shot and killed near Garner and Rider Avenue Wednesday.

Elm and Rider Avenue were closed down for the investigation. Police say the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Officers arrived and located a male victim on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was unresponsive and officers immediately started performing CPR. Paramedics arrived and continued the efforts, but the victim was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A possible suspect was seen running from the scene after the shooting. He was described as a Hispanic male with a thin build wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.

This incident occurred at a time when there were many pedestrians and vehicle traffic in the area. No additional victims were located.

This is the third shooting on Garner Avenue in less than a month.

The investigation is in its preliminary stages and no further information is available at this time.
