GILROY, Calif. -- Police are investigating a shooting Saturday that left a 22-year old man injured.
It happened in the area of Westwood and Driftwood Terrace, just after 9pm.
Police say when they arrived on scene, they found the victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was not able to provide any suspect information, police say, and could only say that the shooting occurred somewhere on Westwood Drive. According to the victim, the shooting was an unprovoked attack, and there was nothing said prior to the incident.
Gilroy Police shut down First Street to allow for an air ambulance to land. Police say the victim was flown to a Bay Area trauma center, where he underwent emergency medical surgery and was listed in stable condition.
Officers were able to identify the location of the hsooting based on physical evidence, which includes multiple shell casings. Westwood Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation.
A witness to the shooting described the suspect as a male, about 5'10" and approximately 160 to 170 pounds. Police say the suspect fled in an unknown vehicle occupied by at least one other subject.
Police say they the investigation is ongoing, and they have not ruled out the possibility the shooting may be gang-related.
