CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. -  California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident Tuesday morning after a 62-year-old man crashed his Ford F-150 into a tree in Carmel Valley.

Around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, a passerby reported what initially appeared to be an abandoned vehicle on East Garzas Road.  Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered that the vehicle, a 2005 Ford F-150, had struck a tree and the driver was deceased.

The vehicle, driven by the 62-year-old man from Seaside, was traveling westbound on East Garzas Road, when for reasons still unknown, the driver allowed the vehicle to leave the roadway, striking a tree.

It is believed the driver had just completed an early morning paper route when the collision occurred.  At this time, it does not appear that the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of collision.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to have played a role in this collision which remains under investigation.  The identity of the deceased is being withheld, pending notification of the next of kin.
