Seaside Parking Congestion After Business Opens

Posted: Updated:

SEASIDE, Calif. -- A new business to one central coast city is bringing a new battle: A war over parking.

Businesses said it's good to see the traffic, but how do you get people out of their cars and into their shops?

Monday was the grand opening of Buffalo Wild Wings in Seaside, but it's the parking that's getting everyone a little wild.

"It was pretty bad," said Jonathan Estrella. "Had to park down the street on the other corner."

"Parking is pretty bad. You gotta expect that because it's just opening," said Marvin Glazier, customer.

Right now a Grocery Outlet is in the middle of construction, and a fence is taking up some of the parking.

But for people like David Hopkins, he said to finally be able to buy chicken wings locally, the wait is well worth it.

"Parking was like 15 minutes," he said. "Look! The whole parking lot is full. It's incredible. It's the first day open, so you know trying to get a taste of some chicken."

Central Coast News spoke with some of the local businesses.

They didn't want to talk on camera, but said they're worried about parking long term now that the restaurant is here.

If customers see the parking mess, they might think twice about sticking around.

Seaside city staff said there is no plan to add additional parking spots.

Jeff Evans, Buffalo Wild Wing's general manager, said he's concerned about parking, too.

He hopes as soon as the grocery store construction wraps up, parking will be better for everyone.

Construction is expected to be finished by February, so that should free up some parking.

Evans said nighttime is where his business gets the bulk of its customers, so day-time congestion should die down a bit after this initial opening.
