Monterey County Named Best Golf Destination in North America - Central Coast News KION/KCBA

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif.- Monday, the International Association of Golf Tour Operators named Monterey County the Top North American Golf Destination  in 2013.

Established in 1997, IAGTO is the global trade organization of the golf tourism industry with more than 1,900 member companies in 90 countries including 450 golf tour operators in 58 countries. Tour operator members from around the world cast their vote for the award based on what they consider to be the best performing golf destinations enjoyed by their golf travelling clients. There are five Golf Destination of the Year winners – one in each regional category: North America, Latin America & Caribbean, Europe, Africa & Gulf States, Asia & Australia.

Annual tournaments throughout Monterey County include the Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational, AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.

Monterey County has 24 golf courses and over 250 lodging properties. Year round temperate climate and world-class hotel and resort amenities entertain more than three million over night visitors a year.
