Salinas Insurance Salesman Pleads Guilty to Theft By an Agent

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. -- The Monterey County District Attorney's Office announced that 39-year old Jesse R. Molina of Salinas plead guilty to theft of premiums of a licensed insurance agent. Investigators say Molina embezzled more than $20,000.

The DA's office said Molina worked as an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group for several years, and between December 2010 and November 2011 he embezzled more than $20,000.

Investigators say Molina took customer premium payments and instead of sending them to Farmers, he deposited the money into his own account.

Salinas Police, the California Department of Insurance and Farmers Insurance all worked together to investigate the case.

Molina will be sentenced on December 18th 2012. He faces a maximum of three years in a local jail. The reason he would in a local jail is because of the new realignment laws that prohibit use of state prisons as a punishment for felony theft cases.
