SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The rain in Santa Cruz didn't stop construction workers from putting on their hard hats and working on the Warriors stadium for game day, just 37 days away.
"Rain or shine, it's going to get done," said Jim Weyermann, president of the Santa Cruz Warriors.
And on Friday the rain sure came down on the stadium.
Weyermann said because crews already got the roof up and the fabric over it, the rain isn't causing any major problems, at least not yet.
But if Santa Cruz sees heavy rain for several days back to back, then you can bet that will be a problem.
"I think the big challenge are the modulers that come in, which are the locker rooms, the restrooms, kind of other support materials that require plumbing on the site," he said.
Weyermann said heavy rains would impact crews ability to dig up holes that help hook up the sewer system.
Too much water isn't going to let that happen.
"We would need a really heavy, terrential kind of rain that ocurred over two or three days before it would impact our ability to dig the holes that are required to hook up the modules
On top of that, the walls and bleachers still need to be installed.
So, the countdown is on.
Thirty-seven days until the opening home game and Mother Nature may make this one a buzzer beater.
The first home game is scheduled for Dec. 23 against the Bakersfield Jam.
