PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. -- It's lights out for one block of businesses on the central coast.
Some Pacific Grove shops said they're the only ones without trees with lights and it's hurting their bottom line.
It's that time of the year where bright lights and fancy decorations are drawing people to shop.
Breaking out the flashlights is the only way people in one part of Lighthouse Avenue, near 13th Street, can get around.
"So that means this area is pretty dark and it's not decorated either with any of the seasonal decorations that the rest of the city is, so people often don't realize that there are businesses here," said Jill Presley of Pacific Grove Antiques.
For Presley, that translates to no customers at night.
Trees light up about three to four blocks of the downtown area, but as soon as you come down to Presley's block, people can hardly even see the business.
"We have pepole everyday almost who come in and say they live here, but this is the first time they realized a store is here and it's been here for over five years," she said.
And for at least those five years, Pacific Grove has yet to do anything about replacing the lighting in this part of town.
Presley's already started to decorate the Christmas tree in hopes of getting some business.
But lighting is a major handicap for her and, as a result, business is declining at a time when others stores pick up.
Tonight, she's begging the city to brighten up the rest of the street fast, or businesses and ultimately Pacific Grove could lose out.
Central Coast News was still waiting to hear back from City Manager Tom Frutchey as of Thursday night.
