FRESNO, Calif. - A flight that took off from Salinas Saturday night crashed near Shaver Lake and The National Transportation Safety Board say two people are dead.
Helicopter crews found the plane's wreckage just before 7:30, after callers heard an airplane, then a loud explosion.
The twin-engine plane, which was headed for Nebraska, had crashed near the intersection of Dinkey Creek and Nevins Roads, east of Shaver Lake. Officials say the pilot likely encountered a winter storm while flying in the mountains.
The plane is registered to a Scott Clarke, who family members say is a doctor from Springfield, Mo. He's among those dead.
There's no indication of how many passengers were on the plane.
Officials say Eastbound Dinky Creek Road is closed for now.
The investigation continues.
