SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Nearly two years to the day an inmate who led police on a hours-long manhunt, holding a day care hostage at one point, finally faced a jury.
On Friday, opening statements started in the trial of a home invasion case Maurice Ainsworth is accused of being a part of in 2008.
While in custody for this case, Ainsworth is better known for attacking a Santa Cruz sheriff's deputy at an appointment at Domincan Hospital in 2010.
Ainsworth was in jail for the current case on trial when officers say he stole the deputy's gun and started an hours-long manhunt.
