Posted: Updated:

Tuscan, Ariz. - The man who shot former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, along with 19 others, has been sentenced to life in prison.

Six people were killed and thirteen injured in January of 2011, when Jared Lee Loughner opened fire on a crowd listening to Congresswoman Giffords speak. Giffords survived, but suffered some brain damage, is blind in one eye, and walks with a limp now.

Thursday, Loughner was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences in prison, plus another 140 years.

Loughner was diagnosed with schizophrenia after the massacre, and is now on a heavy regimen of medication.

At his sentencing today, several of Loughner's victims spoke, including Giffords' husband, Mark Kelly.
