More Local Red Cross Volunteers Are Going to the East Coast

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Right now 28 more Red Cross Volunteers from the Central Coast are heading to the East Coast to provide relief efforts to areas hit by Super Storm Sandy.

Santa Cruz County is sending 22 more volunteers to New York and New Jersey. The new people who have been sent are Julia Batz of Watsonville, Daniel Mcrae of Scotts Valley, Allen Mayfield of Carmel, Robert Farnham of Hollister, Lauren Herrera of San Rafael, Theresa Crocker of Freedom, Scott Auerbach, Janet Packer, and Michael Fyfe of Aptos, Suzanne Samson of Capitola, Darryl Davies and Howard Yancey of Felton, Erin Cashier, Susan Curry, Christa Ward, Louisa Squires, Carmen Mulholland, Megan Darrough, Mitch Stricker, Sharon Parker, Karen and Art Larios of Santa Cruz.

Monterey County also has 6 more volunteers on their way to the East Coast. So far Rick Havens of Prundale has been sent along with Nants Foley of Hollister, River Guetin of Pebble Beach, and Michele Reiners of Carmel.

Volunteers will be helping with providing victims shelter, food and a variety of other needs. So far 127 volunteers have been send to the East Coast from Monterey and San Francisco Bay Areas.

Since the storm hit more than 3.3 million meals have been served from the Red Cross along with 30,000 health services that have been provided. More than 117,000 people have stayed the night in Red Cross shelters.
