SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Devcon Construction crews will raise the steel frame of the Kaiser Permanente Arena this morning and begin the next phase in the 50 day construction. Cranes will take the frame 40 feet in the air and place it in its final resting place.
Next, crews plan to stretch a fabric that will make the exterior walls of the arena. The plans are to complete this over the weekend and then turn to the inside starting next week.
Crews will install insulation, bleachers and other basketball needed equipment like the home court, video playback and scoreboard.
According to the Santa Cruz Warriors, Jim Weyermann said, "This is
an exciting moment for all of our fans and a testament to what can be
accomplished when working together with the City of Santa Cruz. It has always been our goal to
open on time, which is no easy task, but our partner, Devcon Construction, is
going to make it a reality."
The entire exterior is on track to be finished by late next week. The Warriors first home game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on December 23 against the Bakersfield Jam after playing the first seven games on the road. The season starts on November 30.
