LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The anti-Muslim filmmaker behind an Internet film that rocked the Islamic world has been sentenced - but not on charges relating to the film.
Nakoula Basseley Youssef, who recently changed his first name to Mark, was sentenced to one year in prison for violation of probation. Youssef was on probation stemming from a 2012 bank fraud conviction.
None of the charges against him involved "Innocence of Muslims," a short film released online. He went into hiding in September, when violence broke out in the Middle East, with Muslims infuriated over his portrayal of Muhammad.
