Pepsi Delivery Truck Responsible For Major Car Crash

Posted: Updated:

MONTEREY, Calif. - Monterey Fire and Police were on scene of a six-vehicle accident at Washington and Del Monte Avenue around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.  The accident happened just before the Lighthouse tunnel, snarling traffic around the downtown area.

Among the vehicles involved was a Pepsi Truck, that came to rest jack-knifed on Washington.  According to Monterey Police, the investigation determined that the delivery truck was travelling westbound on Del Monte when it ran into the back of three vehicles that were stopped for a red light at the intersection. As a result, one of those vehicles and the delivery truck were pushed into the intersection where they struck two additional vehicles that were eastbound on Del Monte.

One of the drivers (driving a grey Cadillac) had to be extricated from their vehicle and suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. That driver was transported by Cal Star medical transport helicopter to a bay area hospital. A second driver suffered minor injuries.

The intersection was closed for approximately one hour during the investigation and clean up. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
