Experimental Pacemaker Uses Heart's Beat to Run

Posted: Updated:

MARQUETTE, Mi. - Michicgan researchers are testing an experiemental pacemaker, that runs on your heart's own beat.

The device converts energy from a heartbeat into enough electricity to keep the pacemaker running for extended periods of time.

Most pacemakers have to be replaced every 5-7 years when the battery gives out.

Researchers say the new technology could change the way children with heart problems live, by avoiding surgeries and other proceedures needed to keep the pacemaker operating properly.
