SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - On day 4 of the Coldwater Classic in Santa Cruz Sunday, local surfer Nat Young squared off against the top surfer in the world, Joel Parkinson.
Parkinson told Coldwater Classic after the heat, "It was pretty cool surfing against Nat. It's always good to surf against someone who has the whole beach behind them."
Nat Young, a 21-year-old from Santa Cruz, won his way into the tournament Wednesday and beat surfing legend, Kelly Slater, in the first heat.
The competition is the second to last stop in the ASP World Championship Tour. Thousands of fans lined the fence at Steamer Lane to see the 34 best surfers in the world. The classic lasts until November 11th before making their last stop.
