U.S employers added 171,000 jobs in October, and the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged at 7.9 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report released Friday. Employment rose in professional and business services, health care, and retail trade.
The report beat economists predictions, which pointed to only 125,000 jobs added. It also shows hiring was stronger over the previous two months that first thought. This is the final snapshot of the economy before the November 6th election.
