Man Wearing Halloween Mask Robs Watsonville Bank, Police Say

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- A man wearing a Halloween mask robbed a Citibank at gunpoint in Watsonville on Thursday, according to Watsonville Police.

It happened on East Lake Avenue. Police the suspect was wearing a white, plastic Halloween-type mask over his face, just prior to the robbery. Once inside, police say the suspect displayed a handgun and pointed it at several bank employees, while ordering them not to move. According to officers, the suspect then demanded money from the teller drawers. The employees complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. Police say the suspect then fled on foot.

According to Watsonville Police, no customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery. A witness in the area say the suspect run from the bank and onto Tuttle Avenue. The witness said the suspect then got into a green Honda sedan being driven by another male. The vehicle then left the area out of sight from the witness.

Watsonville Police conducted an extensive search of the area, along with deputies from the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office and members of the Santa Cruz Gang Task Force, but were not able to find the suspect.

Police describe the suspect as an Hispanic male with a heavy build, between 40 and 50 years old. He had dark hair and was wearing a tan checkered jacket with a black knit hat.
