CAL FIRE Proud to Sport Pink Cancer Ribbons

Posted: Updated:

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.-  Local firefighters showed support for the battle against breast cancer in October by sporting pink ribbons on their uniforms.

Residents may have noticed large pink ribbons on the uniforms of firefighters, dispatchers and employees from Cypress Fire Protection District/CAL FIRE, Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District/CAL FIRE and Pebble Beach Community Services District/CAL FIRE. These local fire agencies participated in the 2012 national "Cares Enough to Wear Pink," campaign.

The campaign raises awareness and money for cancer research and was part of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when wearing pink signifies support for breast cancer research.

"It's difficult to find someone who cancer hasn't affected in some way, be it through a neighbor, friend, or close family member," said San Benito-Monterey CAL FIRE Unit Chief, Rick Hutchinson in a news release Thursday. "Firefighters are proud to show their support by helping to raise awareness for such an important cause."
