Gilroy, Calif. -- A near fatal accident in Gilroy leaves two people not wearing their seatbelts in serious condition.
CHP says when they arrived on scene a passenger from the collision did not have a pulse. He was later revived and taken to the hospital.
Officers say the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. near Highway 101 and Leavesley Road. 21-year old Angelica Palomares was driving a Nissan Pathfinder with two other people in the car. Palomares was driving eastbound on Leavesley Road to northbound 101 ramp. Police do not know how fast Palomares was driving the car. The second car, a Chevy Silverado Pickup was driven by Theodore Kubota northbound 101 approaching Leavesley Road in the first lane at 65mph.
Officers say the collision happened when the Nissan Pathfinder was driving too fast on the wet road and lost control of the car. CHP said Palomares tried to merge on the freeway, and went across the 2nd and 3rd lane before spinning out. The two cars collided. Two passengers in the Nissan Pathfinder were not wearing seatbelts and sustained serious injuries from the accident. After the Chevy Silverado collided with the Pathfinder, it collided into the center divide of the freeway. None of the passengers in the Chevy Silverado were injured.
The accident is still under investigation.
