Local Beats Surfing Great at ColdWater Classic

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- Seeded against one of the world's most decorated and popular surfers, Santa Cruz native Nat Young just beat Kelly Slater in Round 1 of the O'neill Coldwater Classic.

Young also known as the "Pride of the Westside" recorded a 12.17 score to Slater's 10.0 moving him automatically on to Round 3.

If Young records one more good heat, it could move him to the world tour rankings.  That would be the first Santa Cruz surfer on the Association of Surfing Professionals since the 90's.
