MONTEREY/SANTA CRUZ County, Calif. -- Several Central Coast Red Cross volunteers are making their way into cities destroyed by Super Storm Sandy.
Eight people in Santa Cruz County have been deployed to the disaster-stricken areas. Two people have also been sent to help with relief efforts from Monterey County.
Pam Breslin of Pebble Beach and Cate Whitaker from Carmel will be assisting victims with health services. The eight volunteers from Santa Cruz County are Anderson Douglas of Royal Oaks, Sondra Ziegler of Live Oak, Anna Marie Gotti of Capitola and Bruce Holgers, Joy LeClair, Jann McCord, Tiki Dellamora and Rebecca Linn of Santa Cruz. These volunteers will be working to help feed victims of the storm and providing them shelter.
Volunteers from the Central Coast will be distributed along New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. So far more than 2,300 disaster workers have been assigned for this relief effort.
On Tuesday night more than 9,000 people spent the night in 171 Red Cross shelters across 13 states affected by Super Storm Sandy. More than 100,000 meals and snacks are being served.
