Two Stabbed Outside Liquor Store in Watsonville Friday

WATSONVILLE, Calif. - Late Friday night, Watsonville police responded to a fight at Lulu's Liquors on Freedom Blvd in Watsonville. Once on scene, police found one man a few blocks away with several stab wounds in his back. He was taken to a local hospital and airlifted to a Bay Area Trauma Center with life threatening injuries. Today, the victim has been upgraded with non-life threatening condition but details were limited.

During the investigation, police were told the victim was approached by six to nine males in the parking lot of the liquor store. Police say he tried to run but was caught and stabbed.

Just a hour later, police were notified by Watsonville Community Hospital Emergency Room personell that a 23-year-old man arrived at the hospital with multiple stab wounds in his hand.

During the investigation, police agencies were able to determine that Joshua Zepeda was one of the men that approached the victim. Evidence was found at the scene linking Zepeda to the stabbing. 

He was arrested for attempted murder and gang enhancements and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail. The stabbing is being investigated as a gang motivated crime. 

Watsonville Police served several search warrants and recovered useful evidence, but no additional arrests have been made at this time.
