79-Year-Old Woman Hit and Killed by SUV

SAN JOSE, Calif.- San Jose police officers found a 79-year-old woman dead after being hit by a Toyota 4-Runner near an intersection in the city Friday afternoon.

Police pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 5:19 pm in the area of Taylor Street and N. 6th Street in San Jose.  At approximately 5:08 P.M., the San Jose Police Department's 9-1-1 Communications Center received a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Taylor Street and N. 6th Street. 

Preliminary investigation into the collision has revealed that the woman was crossing Taylor Street from North to South in or near the crosswalk when she was struck by a grey Toyota 4-Runner that was travelling westbound on Taylor Street.  

The 32-year-old male driver of the 4-Runner remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

It is not believed that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.  The victim's identity is being withheld pending coroner notifications to the next of kin.
