79-Year-Old Woman Hit and Killed by SUV - Central Coast News KION/KCBA

SAN JOSE, Calif.- San Jose police officers found a 79-year-old woman dead after being hit by a Toyota 4-Runner near an intersection in the city Friday afternoon.

Police pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 5:19 pm in the area of Taylor Street and N. 6^th Street in San Jose.  At approximately 5:08 P.M., the San Jose Police Department's 9-1-1 Communications Center received a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Taylor Street and N. 6^th Street. 

Preliminary investigation into the collision has revealed that the woman was crossing Taylor Street from North to South in or near the crosswalk when she was struck by a grey Toyota 4-Runner that was travelling westbound on Taylor Street.  

The 32-year-old male driver of the 4-Runner remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

It is not believed that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.  The victim's identity is being withheld pending coroner notifications to the next of kin.
