MONTEREY, Calif. -- If you've driven down Lighthouse Avenue in Monterey recently, you've probably seen the construction and been stuck in traffic jams. But what you may not know is the construction will be putting a little bit of jazz on some bus routes.
Want to listen to Billie Holiday, when she performed live at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1958? Well if you take a ride on MST in Monterey, that will be one of many tunes you can listen to thanks to the new Bus Rapid Transit system that will run along the busiest route on the Monterey Peninsula.
MST teamed up with the Monterey Jazz Festival to create a distinct brand on one bus line called simply, "Jazz."
The idea is to create a linear museum, using the bus stops on this line to feature dramatic jazz theme displays from different years of the jazz festival. MST chose "Jazz" because they said the festival is something that makes Monterey unique.
In order to listen to some jazz performances, you can even scan a code with you phone at the bus stop.
"It's the first of its kind not just here in Monterey County but in the country," said Carl Sedoryk, CEO of MST.
Buses will also have a GPS that trigger traffic lights to stay green if the bus is running behind. Also, at night, the bus stops on this route will have a lighting feature that will create a spot light effect similar to one you would see live, at the Monterey Jazz Festival .
