Shooting in Salinas House May be Connected to Arco Robbery

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. - Police were called to Cari Court Tuesday evening on reports of a shooting victim. The Salinas Police Department confirmed with Central Coast News that one man was shot in the leg sometime after 8:00 p.m.

The victim was found inside the house when police arrived.  Officers say two men, wearing all black went into the house.

They ordered several people who rented spaces in that house, including women and children, to drop to the floor.

They asked if there were any rival gang members in the house, then, just after, the 20-year-old victim walked out of one of the bedrooms to see what was going on.

The people in that house say as soon as the victim walked out of the room, the suspects immediately fired at him.

That victim ran out of the house, and the suspects ran after him.  Police say the suspects continued firing rounds at him, striking him in the leg.

He's expected to be okay.

Cari Court and about one-block Atlantic Street was closed off during Tuesday night's investigation.

An SUV on Atlantic Street was also hit by bullets and the suspects escaped in a white compact car.

A few blocks away, an anonymous citizen reported that three males in dark clothing ran from a vehicle, leaving it abandoned in the middle of Amarillo at Caoba St.

Officers found out it was a stolen Ford Focus, and found a bag with an undisclosed amount of cash inside.

No suspects could be located.  It appears the vehicle may be involved in both the shooting and the armed robbery of the Arco Station minutes before the shooting.

The investigation continues.
