In a debate for an Indiana U.S. Senate seat, Republican candidate Richard Mourdock argued that pregnancies from rape are "something God intended."
Mourdock went on to say that he believes life begins at conception, and he would only allow abortions when a mother's life is in danger.
At a press conference after the debate, Mourdock tried to clarify his comments, saying that he did not believe God "pre-ordained" women to be raped. He said he only meant to express that "God creates life."
Another U.S. Senate candidate, Todd Akin, has also been called out for his comments about rape, when he said that few pregnancies result from "legitimate rape."
