Semi Truck Accident Leaves One Person Dead

GILROY, Calif. -- CHP says one person is dead and two other people were injured after a car collided with a semi truck in Gilroy.
 
The accident happened Monday just before 7:00 p.m. on State Route 152 near Dinosaur Point. CHP said both the Toyota and semi truck were traveling eastbound on 152.  
 
Officers say the semi truck driver was driving slow in the commuter lane. The Toyota merged behind the semi truck into the commuter lane. The Toyota then collided into the back of the semi truck.
 
The driver of the Toyota was air-lifted to Valley Medical Center in San Jose. The driver suffered a large laceration to his head and a broken clavicle. The front passenger, Jose Perez,  was taken to the San Jose Regional Hospital injuries to his chest and hip.
 
CHP says the passenger in the back seat of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics about 30 minutes after the accident. Officers say the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
 
The semi truck driver had no injuries. Officers say drugs and alcohols were not a factor in this collision. The cause of the accident it still under investigation.
