More High Bills for CAL AM Customers

Posted: Updated:

CARMEL, Calif. -- Water is a necessity we use everyday, but some Cal AM water bills, may be forcing some of you to use a lot less.

"I had a bill for 10 times the normal amount," said Victor Krag of Carmel.

Krag reached out to us after he saw our story Wednesday night about another Carmel woman who was charged close to $10,000 for her water. That's when Krag realized there was a bigger problem.

"Cal AM is just drawing money from people's account," said Krag.

When Krag was billed hundreds of dollars more than his normal water bill , Cal AM told him he probably had a leak.

Krag said he did his own leak test, but found no leak. Others we've talked to have even brought out plumbers to check and found no leaks. Turns out, when Cal AM upgraded his meter a few years, Krag said they never reset the new one.

All of a sudden he started getting the high bills. When Krag called he said Cal AM realized the meter wasn't reset and said he didn't have to pay the difference on the high bill

Now Krag is standing up to all the agencies involved, for people like Leslie Miller who emailed Central Coast News today about her $6,000 bill.

"There should have been a red flag immediately and said hey there is a problem with your account," said Krag.

CAL AM says that if people investigate their own high bill issue they will get a 80 percent discount on their high bill. However, because of this

However because they are making these adjustments, they are proposing a new charge on every customers' water bill that comes out to a little over three dollars. It still has to be approved by the state public utilities commission
