California Unemployment Rate Decreases, Non-farm Jobs Increase

New reports from the California Employment Development Department show state-wide unemployment dropped down to 10.2% in September.

According to the Employement Development Department, the unemployment rate in Monterey County was 8.6 percent in September 2012, down from a revised 9.1 percent in August 2012, and below the year-ago estimate of 9.9 percent. This compared with an *unadjusted unemployment rate of 9.7 percent for California and 7.6 percent for the nation during the same period.

Two new surveys completed by the department show non farm payroll jobs increased by 8,500 in September, for a total gain of 505,600 jobs since February 2012.

The number of people unemployed in-state was 1,876,000 in September, down by 60,000 over the month and down 277,000 compared with last year.
