SAN JOSE, Calif. - Is it a bird, a plane or a massive fireball?
Stargazers were in for a treat Wednesday night when a massive fireball flew across the skies over the Bay Area and even on the Central Coast.
Residents reported seeing what appeared to be a large meteor fly through the sky around 7:30 p.m. and then start to break apart. People say the break-up was followed by a loud boom.
Astronomers say the meteor probably struck earth and estimate it was the size of a car when it started to break apart over California.
