Great ShakeOut Set, State Prepares for the Next Big One

Posted: Updated:

Its a worldwide event that people all across the world will participate in Thursday morning. The state of California will participate in the Great ShakeOut, a worldwide earthquake drill, to help you prepare for ways to protect yourself in case of the next major earthquake.

At 10:18, the drill will begin for those participating. If you are outdoors, you are encouraged to move to an open space and avoid anything overhead. For instance, avoid power lines, overpasses and signs. Also, if you are indoors, the precautions say to drop to the floor and get under a desk or table.

The GreatShake Out has been going on since 2008 and this year is a first for many states. Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia will participate in the drill for the first time this year. The drill will also be held in Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, California, Guam, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Puerto Rico, southern Italy, and Washington.
