Hollister Neighbors Take Down Suspected Burglar

Posted: Updated:

HOLLISTER, Calif.- Hollister Police arrested Edwardo Banuelos, 18, Tuesday after he was left behind by his alleged conspirators and chased from the scene of a burglary.

At about 10:17 am, a person on the 800 block of Versailles Drive reported a burglary in progress. A neighbor noticed a suspicious vehicle and several males entering and exiting the home. The witness knew the homeowner was not home and called him to inform him of the activity. He confirmed there should be no one at his home and asked the neighbor to call the police.

According to a police news release, a relative of the homeowner was in the area and arrived in time to see a white Toyota Prius leaving the area with three male suspects inside. As the car made a quick getaway, a fourth suspect emerged from the home. The suspect began to run away from the home on foot as the citizens gave chase. One of the citizens, who had a cast on his leg, was still able to catch up to the suspect as police arrived. The suspect was taken into custody.

Police said they found several items that had been taken from the home and other items that were left outside when the suspects made their hasty escape. The suspect, Edwardo Banuelos, is also accused of having stolen items in his possession.

Police are still looking for the three suspects who fled the area. They are reported to be Hispanic male adults, 25-28 years old. The driver was thin, dark-complected, and wore a white t-shirt. The passenger was heavy-set and wore a light gray hooded sweatshirt. The third suspect in the car was not described by witnesses.

The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the neighbors who called in the suspicious activity and those neighbors who came out to assist in the capture of the suspect and to provide eye witness accounts of the crime.

Banuelos was booked at the San Benito County Jail on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the remaining suspects in this crime is asked to contact Officer Chris Wells at 636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may result in an award of up to $1,000.
