PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.-- Right now there are several sketches of the new Holman Hotel available for people to see at the Pacific Grove Library. Presidian Hotels and Resorts has provided several images to show people the size of the building in relation to other businesses around it.
The photos and sketches will be up until election day for the public to see the proposed plans for the new hotel. No more meeting have been scheduled about the hotel proposal. At this point the city and the developer say its up to voters to decide whether to approve the zoning plans on the November ballot.
If the zoning measure passes, Presidian Hotels and Resorts will start submitting permit requirements to the city based on the images that can be seen at the PG library. If the measure on the ballot does not pass, the city says the developer is not likely to move forward with a new hotel project under the current zoning plan.
The developer for the proposed Pacific Grove Holman Hotel released a new rendering Wednesday afternoon at Pacific Grove City Hall.
Developer Drake Leddy said, "This is an opportunity for the public to see an accurate size representation of the proposed new hotel in relation to the surrounding buildings in the city."
Pacific Grove voters will take up the issue on November 6th at the ballot box with Measure F. If passed, the initiative would address zoning changes in the city to allow for construction of the hotel project.
Leddy also tells Central Coast News the environmental review that was completed for the ballot measure also specifies a number of required mitigations and full review of any proposed project by the Pacific Grove Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board. The project will also be required to complete a full Environmental Impact Report.
Measure F would allow for a hotel to be built at a height no greater than 75-feet and would require the project to step down towards Central Avenue to create a pedestrian scale at the sidewalk level and maintain compatibility with the unique character of the downtown area.
The proposed height limit allows the hotel to be built at a similar height and scale as the current historic Holman building which is approximately 73-feet in height at its penthouse level. The building would be the first full-service, 230-room hotel in Pacific Grove. The city expects the new development would bring in $1 million every year to Pacific Grove.
